French director and playwright Charles-Gaspard Delestre-Poirson wrote several comedies in his lifetime, both alone, and in collaboration with other playwrights such as Eugene Scribe, and Melesville. One of his collaborations with Scribe was the libretto for Rossini's comic opera Le Comte Ory.
