Jon Jory is an American playwright, producer, and director who has worked in the theatre for more than 30 years. Jory’s parents performed in summer stock and in films, exposing him to theatre and the craft of acting at an early age. After attending the University of Utah and Yale University, Jory co-founded the Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut. In 1969, he became the producing artistic director at Actors Theatre of Louisville, which would catapult him to national recognition. Under Jory’s leadership, Actors Theatre launched the Humana Festival of New American Plays, which has produced some of the most celebrated contemporary plays. As a playwright, he has written a number of light-hearted adaptations of classic literature, including The Gift of the Magi, Moby Dick, and Pride and Prejudice. He is also the author of a number of books offering practical tips for actors and directors.
