Act One, Scene 1-London. Parliament.

York, Edward, Richard, Norfolk, Montague, Warwick, and their soldiers enter Parliament looking for King Henry VI who fled the battlefield at the end of Henry VI Part 2. Richard shows them Somerset鈥檚 head, which he cut off after slaying Somerset in the battle. They all congratulate Richard for his accomplishments and Richard dreams of swinging King Henry鈥檚 head around in the same way. Warwick agrees that the King should die and vows to help York until he sits on the throne. York is grateful and sends the soldiers up to lodge for the night. Warwick tells York to sit in the throne, and he does.

King Henry VI, Clifford, Northumberland, Westmoreland, Exeter and others enter and see York sitting on the King鈥檚 throne. The King is shocked at York鈥檚 rashness and reminds Clifford and Northumberland that they have promised to have revenge for the death of their fathers at York鈥檚 hand.
