Act One

Anon stands alone, starting a story he can鈥檛 quite remember or put into words. 鈥淲here I come from is far away from here.鈥� The Chorus of Refugees join him, led by Naja, speaking their own origin stories, describing the landscapes of of their homes, the animals and plants to be found there, the food and drink they remember. The Chorus leaves, but Naja remains, prompting Anon to remember his story. Anon insists that he can鈥檛, or won鈥檛, The sounds of wars begin in the distance. Naja tells Anon to 鈥淏egin in the middle鈥�, and leaves. Anon begins to tell his story: 鈥淲here I come from there was a war that lasted so long people forgot what they were fighting for.鈥� Anon鈥檚 mother, Nemasani, appears on the stage, singing an ancient song. Anon tries to approach her, speaking longingly of home, but the sound of a falling bomb halts his progress. Naja appears, and pulls him out of the path of the bomb.

An explosion of blinding white light changes the scene to Mr. Yuri Mackus鈥� sewing factory,
