In turn-of-the-20th-century England, we meet Charlotte Sweet, the darling of Liverpool (Charlotte Sweet). Charlotte attributes her sweetness to being born on Valentine鈥檚 Day. Charlotte鈥檚 beau is the equally cute Ludlow Ladd Grimble, who, coincidentally, was born on Christmas. Exchanging keepsakes, Charlotte gives her sweetheart a heart-shaped locket, while Ludlow give Charlotte a Christmas b没che鈥攊.e. log cake鈥攆rom the bakery where he works. They pledge to love each other 鈥淔orever鈥�. Afterwards, they join their neighbors to admire the 鈥淟iverpool Sunset鈥�. Meanwhile at home, Charlotte鈥檚 poor mother鈥攁 chronic shiverer鈥攈as suffocated under the massive 鈥淟ayers Of Underwear鈥� it took to warm her.
