Start: Originally, I intended to burn all of Alfred’s letters. I was always afraid if the Stasi searched my house they would find them and ask, “Why do you keep the correspondence of a criminal?�

End: He was left with only his bed. It was awful. After his release from jail, I went to the church in Weissensee and I found Alfred a place in their nursing home. One day, Alfred, you’ll have your own flat again.
