Biography
Eugène Scribe
Augustin Eugene Scribe was a 19th century dramatist and librettist. Many of his works for theatre were considered perfect examples of the art form, or piece bien faite.
Several of them were subsequently adapted into opera libretti, including Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, Bellini's La sonnambula, and after the author's death, Cilea's Adriana Lecouvreur
Scribe also created the libretto for Rossini's Le comte Ory, Verdi's Les Vepres siciliennes, and several of Meyerbeer's operas.
