Christ, you’ve got to admit he really was a bastard in many ways! I know he was drinking heavily--I know--I know all that! But for Christ’s sake to walk away deliberately when your wife’s going to have your baby in the middle of bloody nowhere--I mean to say, to do that deliberately, that’s some kind of bloody-mindedness.
